Today I met Margrett. She’s a 40 something single mom who works here during the night shift, say from 6 to 12. She knew we were living here, she said there’s a rumor going around the employees and people are trying to figure out who it is. Margrett is originally from Honduras and her son goes to Bladensburg High, I think she said. During the day she works at Peoples Hospital in Lanham, I’m not sure doing what, and then she has just enough time to see her son for about an hour or two before she comes over here to begin the night shift. It’s really quite amazing and causes me to feel some conviction for the easiness I’ve had so far in life. She really works hard and is so proud that her son will be the first in her family to be going off to college. Our conversation was mostly about God and how she prays everyday to thank Him for the grace He has given to her and her son. She seemed intrigued at our experiment to live in this fluorescent light forsaken place, but kept returning to God in everything she said. I was encouraged and moved by her faith even though her applications didn’t always make total sense.
I invited Dave and Bill to come on over to my section of the store for a sleep over. There’s actually plenty of space for three guys to have their own little area to sleep and still be within talking distance.
